Foundation Model

A large, general-purpose AI model trained on broad data, designed to be adapted for many different downstream tasks rather than built for just one job.

Claude, GPT, and Gemini are all foundation models — the same underlying model can be used for coding, writing, analysis, and more without retraining it from scratch each time.
