Hallucination

When an AI confidently states something false or fabricated as if it were fact — a made-up statistic, a fake citation, or a nonexistent event.

It happens because a model is predicting plausible-sounding text, not retrieving verified facts from a database — always double-check specific claims, dates, and sources it gives you.
