Small Language Model (SLM)

A language model with far fewer parameters than a frontier model, built to run faster, cheaper, and often locally on a device rather than in the cloud.

SLMs trade some general capability for speed and lower cost, making them well suited to narrow, well-defined tasks rather than open-ended conversation.
